Despite pandemic, Branson’s Salvation Army exceeds Red Kettle fundraising goals by record numbers

BRANSON, Mo. (KY3) – Captain Linda McCormick says in 2020, the Red Kettle campaign raised $89,000.

Because of the pandemic she didn’t know if they would even come close to that number this year.

”Not knowing if people were going to have cash, remember that was a big deal, but I’m telling you we did not have a coin shortage,”McCormick said.

The Salvation Army ended the season with $108,000.

”Oh the staff and the volunteers were very excited,” McCormick said. “We ended up with four very strong bell ringers so that was a huge help.”

Salvation Army receives 2nd grant to provide housing, utility assistance during pandemic

As a part of the CARES Act, the U.S. Department of Housing and Development has granted $2.3 billion to be used to support homeless assistance programs.

The COVID-19 pandemic has often been compared to the recession of 2008, and for some even the Great Depression, due to the large economic downturn set off by the virus.
